As St. Patrick’s Day approaches, so does some wonderful festivities. This is a time for fun parties and dress up time for kids. Your child maybe invited to a costume party to help celebrate this Irish holiday so you may want to look into finding kids leprechaun costumes. Below are some tips in helping you choose the right costume for your little one.

The first thing you want to look for is safety. You should always try to go with a kid’s leprechaun costume that is fire proof or flame retardant. You also want the costume to be comfortable and offer your child room to move around. If the weather is warm you do not want to put your child in a costume that will cover them completely as this can get very hot, very quick and that only helps to make an unhappy child.

The next thing you want to look for is fun and creativity in the costume. Your child will enjoy wearing the leprechaun costume if it is something fun. For instance you may want to look at the Lucky Charms Leprechaun costume. This comes with a rainbow of marshmallows that look like the ones in the cereal. Kids love to look like the characters that they love and this is a super fun choice.

Other costume ideas might include a pot of gold for them to carry as well as leprechaun ears. Don’t forget the pointed boots and the green hat. IF the costume is for Halloween then your child might like to go dressed as a scary or evil leprechaun. Just be sure not to go too scary if the costume is for a smaller child.

For older girls there are some real cute and sassy girl leprechaun costumes. These include while stockings with shamrocks on them and a cute green mini skirt with white ruffles. Add in the black coat with a leprechaun belt and the black leprechaun hat with the fat buckle and your ensemble is complete.

When it comes to shopping for the kid’s leprechaun outfit, you will want to check out some of the many sites online. Most often you can get a much better deal if you buy from online rather then a local company. Look for deals that offer you a discount if you buy more then one costume or if you add in accessories. Some sites will offer the best price and will match competitor’s prices to be sure that they get the sale. Also look for sites that offer free or discounted shipping deals to help you save even more money.

Kids Leprechaun Costumes are not just for St. Patrick’s Day costume parties or Halloween. There are plenty of times throughout the year that costumes may be needed such as other holidays, school plays and costume birthday parties as well. The main thing is to let your child help in choosing the costume and make sure that he or she has fun with it.

Leprechaun Folklore

The leprechaun is a form of fairy within Irish folklore, generally having the shape of a aged man, clothed with a red-colored or even green-colored coat, that likes actively taking part in mischief. Just like some other fairy characters, leprechauns had been associated with the Tuatha Dé Danann in Irish mythology. Common depictions show these little people to be not any taller than a little kid.

Leprechauns are considered to be solitary creatures, whose main work is usually producing as well as restoring footwear, and also who seem to love practical jokes. Based on William Butler Yeats, the greater riches associated with these types of fairies originates from the actual “treasure crocks, hidden in old wartime”, that they’ve discovered and also appropriated.

Earliest identified references to leprechauns shows up within the old story referred to as the Echtra Fergus mac Léti. The actual wording includes a event where Fergus mac Léti, the King of Ulster, fell asleep upon the seashore and awakes to discover himself being pulled in to the ocean by 3 leprechauns (lúchorpáin). Fergus mac Léti catches the abductors, that offer him 3 wishes as a swap for their release.

Becoming Irish with a St Patrick’s Hat on St Patrick’s Day. Choose from a wide range of styles of St Patrick’s hats for children and adults

Every 17th of March year in and year out for hundreds of years, the feast of the more popular Irish patron saint – St. Patrick, of course – is celebrated in many parts of the world where the Irish people have settled. Thus, you see people out on the streets and in the pubs of places as far away as the United States, Canada, Argentina, New Zealand, Uruguay and, of course, the United Kingdom celebrating the green day with as much Irish fervor as one can muster. And probably with the most unique St. Pat’s hat you can find.

There are many Irish traditions being celebrated on St. Patrick’s Day, which even the non-Irish can join in without reservations. After all, you never know when you will need the good luck of the Irish on your side!

First, you have to attend the mass especially conducted on this day. Of course, if you are not Catholic, nobody will be forcing you to convert to the religion. It runs counter to the teachings of the Irish saint and, so, you really have nothing to worry about on that point.

Second, you can attend the mass parades. This time, you need not even belong to any one of the Christian sects that celebrate St. Patrick’s Day as a religious festival. (You can wear your St. Pat’s hat to the parade, too) You just need to enjoy the parade, smile at your fellowmen and just get into the spirit of the day. By the way, the Christian sects are Roman Catholics, Anglicans and Eastern Orthodox Christians. But if you have even a drop of Irish blood in you, then go ahead and party!

Third, you must wear a shamrock! Yes, it is a sign that you are either an Irish or you are one with the Irish in their celebration. The shamrock was supposedly used by St. Patrick to explain the Holy Trinity during his days as a bishop in Ireland. Nowadays, however, it is a sign of good luck that can be found on the St. Patrick’s hat, usually as an appliqué.

Fourth, you have to wear green! Yes, whole cities are transformed into a sea of green that will make you think that everybody has somehow become instantly Irish. The Chicago River becomes green, the White House fountain is green and the people become green from head to foot. Why green? Well, it’s because of an Irish myth that says you have to wear green in order to fool the naughty leprechaun. What will happen if you don’t wear green? You get pinched, of course. Why? So that you might have some green (and red and purple bruises) on you. Nobody said being Irish was easy, even if it was only for a day.

Fifth, you should drink alcohol in a pub. Well, not really, as you can choose not to. But if you do choose to drink the famous Irish drink with potato stew and wheaten bread, then make sure that these foods and drink stay in your stomach instead of going up where your hat is placed.

So, what makes a man Irish on St. Patrick’s Day? A St. Patrick’s hat maybe? Or St. Patrick’s Day costumes? Well, it’s definitely not the blood per se – it’s the spirit of the Irish in you that makes you Irish!

1. Say it with shamrocks.

The shamrock, commonly called a clover, is the national symbol of Ireland. No décor for a St. Patrick’s Day party is complete without shamrocks. From wreaths to confetti and from whirls to cutouts, you can use shamrocks to add some pizzazz to any March 17th celebration. 2. Be creative.

At first, you may seem limited by the types of St. Patrick’s decorations that you can use. How many ways can you add green to the decorations of your St. Patrick’s Day party, right? The key is to be creative. Use a blend of premade and DIY decorations, to add some variety to the atmosphere. Surf the Net, read magazines and ask friends and relatives for decorating ideas that will wow your partygoers.

In fact, you can find decorations that aren’t of the run of the mill variety. The key is to do your homework in order to throw the best party possible.

3. Don’t leave out the leprechaun.

Along with shamrocks, the leprechaun has become one of the biggest icons of St. Patrick’s Day. Most of us are familiar with what they look like, but what exactly are those little guys? The leprechaun is actually a sort of fairy that originated in Irish folklore. They’re known as short, mischievous characters that are usually wearing green pants, jacket and hat. In American pop culture, the leprechaun has appeared in movies, on cereal boxes and even in professional wrestling rings!

When planning the decorations for your St. Patrick’s Day party, consider including the leprechaun’s image to add some variety. You can find a cornucopia of leprechaun items in party supply stores, or create DIY decorations that include the short people on them. While leprechauns are often portrayed as grumpy little men, you can also find cheerier images that will help to brighten up the room.

4. It’s easy being green.

It goes without saying that green is THE St. Patrick’s Day color. So when choosing St. Patrick Day’s decorations, make sure to include plenty of green. Besides the decorations themselves, you could include green food, ask the guests to wear green outfits and so on. While green isn’t everyone’s favorite color, it certainly has its day on St. Patrick’s Day!

While St. Patrick’s Day isn’t a national holiday in most of the world, it can still be a fun and festive day. Follow these party decorating tips to make a day for the Irish a day for everyone!
